Counter-Terrorism Legislation Amendment Bill 2026

Summary

Amends the: Crimes Act 1914 and Criminal Code Act 1995 to: extend the operation of certain counter-terrorism powers and other frameworks for a further 3 years, until 7 December 2029; and expand information-sharing arrangements; Criminal Code Act 1995 to: update the post-sentence order and control order frameworks for serious terrorist offenders; clarify the process for de-listing terrorist organisations; and expand protections for United Nations and associated personnel; Surveillance Devices Act 2004 and Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 to enable agencies to obtain warrants in relation to serious terrorist offenders in custody when considering applications for control orders. Also makes consequential amendments to 5 Acts.
