Question

1. At the 2022 Federal Election $20 million was promised to establish a Northern Hospice based in Launceston. Refurbishment of the Allambi site was to commence in late 2025 after many delays. Can the department update the committee regarding this project? What milestones have been achieved? 2. What has been the reason for the delay in refurbishment? 3. Can the Department confirm whether this is actually a priority project for the Tasmanian State Government? 4. What milestones are outstanding? Is there confidence that these milestones will be met this year as originally promised? 5. It has been almost 20 years now since Launceston's only standalone hospice (Phillip Oakden House) closed its doors. Will the new Allambi refurbishment be completed so the hospice can open in December 2026 or will this now be pushed back further until 2027? 6. The campaign for this standalone hospice for Northern Tasmania has been tireless. Barb Baker and the Friends of Northern Hospice championing this hospice since Phillip Oakdens closure. Is the State Liberal Government working closely with Friends of Northern Hospice during the completion phase of the build? 7. Will the vision of Friends of Northern Hospice be realised? For example, will the delivery of this hospice include a home-like environment featuring calm spaces, day rooms, specialist palliative care nurses and access to landscaped gardens and courtyards? 8. Northern Tasmanians are dying at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) when they should be able to access hospice care and support. Is the State Government aware of this? And why haven't they viewed this project as a priority for the health and wellbeing of the Northern Tasmanian community?
