Technical Advisory Group
Question
Senator DAVID POCOCK: Thanks, Minister. Ms Rule, is it an open process to get onto that technical advisory group or does the minister pick who's on there? How does it work? Ms Rule: We're currently providing advice to the minister at this time on the composition of the technical advisory group. Senator McAllister: I think one way to think about it is that it is a group-and Mr Comely may wish to add to this-that we expect will engage deeply with very technical experience. It will be as it is labelled, but it will need to engage very deeply with the disability community and with lived experience. We want the technical advice, but we also want the engagement to understand all perspectives in building that access pathway. Mr Comley: If the question was: have we gone out for, for example, a broad expression of interest- Senator DAVID POCOCK: Which pathway under the government's appointment process will be used? Mr Comley: That's a good question. Someone might be able give to the technical answer, but it's a government advisory board appointed by the minister. We haven't gone out with a broad request for expressions of interest, but we have actually been approached by a number of people. We've basically used the networks of knowing who is genuinely an expert in this area, because it is a technical advisory group and it's a community that we know reasonably well in Australia. Senator DAVID POCOCK: Which pathway is that? That doesn't- Senator McAllister: I think Mr Comely said he would need to take- Mr Comley: I'll take that on notice. Formally, I think of it as a ministerial advisory group. It's not a statutory body, if that's what you're asking.
