Question

Senator ASKEW: Very good. I note that in the first part of Mr Butler's response to a House of Reps question on notice, which I've got a copy of here, he stated that the specific number of children and their families, carers and kin who will be supported through Thriving Kids is difficult to estimate, particularly as service design is ongoing. Have we come to more realistic numbers since then? That was only recently, but have we got an idea of what sorts of numbers we're looking at? Ms Pulczynski: There are two parts to this answer. The first being that the number of children that will be serviced through Thriving Kids also includes children who currently are not serviced with NDIS. Thriving Kids is also about servicing unmet need, not only supporting children but also supporting parents and families and carers. That's important to note. Ultimately, as Minister Butler mentioned in the QON, it is still difficult to estimate because we are still working through service design with jurisdictions. It'll be some time before we know the numbers going through Thriving Kids. We're working on an evaluation reporting framework. In time we'll know that, but we just don't know that right now. We do have some more specific numbers, though, about the estimated number of diversions from the NDIS into Thriving Kids. Senator ASKEW: Are you able to provide those numbers? Ms Pulczynski: I can, and Ms Long may also choose to speak to it. There are some assumptions that the scheme actuary has made based on his modelling as part of the budget.
