Question

Senator STEELE-JOHN: You spoke in broad terms, Minister, about the types of people and expertise you'd be looking for. Is there a formal selection criteria for membership of the technical advisory group at this time? Senator McAllister: We're reliant on the department for advice about the nature of the expertise that we would require. I'm happy for Ms Rule to speak about some of the considerations. Senator STEELE-JOHN: Have you put together a criteria for membership? Ms Rule: In short, we conducted a process through a desktop review and also discussed requirements with key stakeholders as well as the department's chief disability adviser. You would understand that we've had many representations as well, but what we're considering is the breadth of impairments and expertise across demographics and the like. Those are the key considerations. It is intended to be a technical group. Mr Comley referenced seeking people with disability to be part of that technical advice. Senator STEELE-JOHN: You mentioned stakeholder groups there. Which stakeholder groups have you consulted with? Ms Rule: Sorry, I haven't got that list. It's primarily been through either direct representations or existing relationships in the department. As you know, we're in a large department, and there are other chief positions in the department, such as Chief Allied Health Officer and the like. Senator STEELE-JOHN: You're referring to internal stakeholders. Ms Rule: It's not only internal, but that's an example. We've had external representations as well, but I don't have a list. Senator STEELE-JOHN: Can you take on notice for us which external stakeholders have been consulted? Ms Rule: To clarify, we haven't done a consultation process, but we've had representations from people. We have been engaging as people have been reaching out to us, but I want to emphasise that that's not a deciding factor. That is part of- Senator STEELE-JOHN: Groups have reached out to you. Ms Rule: They have reached out to us. Senator STEELE-JOHN: After that process, do you now have a selection criteria that you've been able to provide as advice? Ms Rule: As I indicated, the selection criteria is technical expertise. Senator STEELE-JOHN: Yes, but do you have a framework that details the type of technical expertise you're talking about there to help guide decision-making? Ms Wood: Within that framework of technical expertise, there are obviously a range of disciplines that we're aware of that the minister might want to consider that will assist- Senator STEELE-JOHN: Which of those disciplines? Ms Wood: I don't have it in front of me, but we're happy to provide that information to you.
