Best practice - Services for Children and Young people
Question
Senator ANANDA-RAJAH: And, speaking to support, what kinds of services do you see around the country? Can you give us some examples of best practice or better practice, and then perhaps some of the gaps that you have observed. Ms Cronin: I think we're all recognising that we have not built a service system that is designed to respond directly to the needs of children and young people, that the service system was designed to respond to- predominantly, we know it's women who have been fleeing domestic and family violence particularly but also needing sexual assault services. In answer to your earlier question too, the other thing that I would point out is that we are seeing increases in sexual violence and online harm. I'll go back to your question about services for children and young people. I think everyone recognises that we need to adapt existing services so that they are more available, accessible and responsive to the needs of children and young people. But we also need additional services that are tailor made. We have some very good examples in Australia of programs that have been evaluated, documented and funded to provide specific services to children and young people, such as the Amplify program of Melbourne City Mission. They have done some program work that is excellent and they have received very good feedback in terms of the outcomes that they're delivering for children and young people. Senator ANANDA-RAJAH: Could you supply us on notice with a list of some of that best practice? That would be useful. Ms Cronin: Absolutely. I'm very happy to.
