RBA - RBA payment outage and response actions
Question
Senator DEAN SMITH: On notice, can you just provide me an update on the recommendations from the incident report around the RBA payment system outage that occurred on 27 January? I'm also particularly interested in having a better understanding about why the outage occurred on 27 January but a media release notifying of the outage was not issued until 29 January. I just wanted to get more detail around that event in regards to the outage being known and then the media release not being issued until 29 January. On notice, can I also ask for an update on the implementation of those various recommendations-I think there were eight to 10 recommendations-around the outage. And then, if I could just indulge, in my travels around Western Australia I often get asked questions about the Senate Economics Committee and our engagement with the RBA. On notice, could you provide me with some information about the pros and cons of the RBA using a modified version of the CPI that excludes fuel price movements when considering decisions on interest rates? That's just from some very earnest Western Australian constituents. I gave them a commitment I would ask you directly. Ms Bullock: Okay. There might be a bit of an issue of misunderstanding about how we think about inflation, but we can provide something- Senator DEAN SMITH: That might be better coming from you than me. Ms Bullock: That's fine. We can do we can do that.
