Question

Senator CHANDLER: Minister, I recognise that you have somewhat shared portfolio responsibilities here because you are the Minister for Women. But I'll just be very clear. Has Treasury not undertaken analyses on these tax policies to see how they impact women specifically? Ms Wilkinson: Can I take that on notice. There is definitely some analysis in here about the potential impacts. When you think about the tax package overall, we know that the distribution of Labor income earners across the taxable income distribution is different for men and women. That is illustrated in chart 4.2. So, as a consequence of that, that results in the reductions in personal tax rates on Labor income being almost certainly more beneficial for women or secondary earners, and that encourages labour force participation amongst secondary earners as well, we would think. There is a range of analysis that we have done. If there's a specific question, I'm very happy to see what additional information could be provided potentially when the revenue group comes back this evening. Senator Gallagher: There's quite a lot of analysis in the Women's Budget Statement. I just don't have it with me. We're able to have a further discussion. I'm just trying to get it brought up.
