Question

On various occasions, the PM has told Australians that the gas industry pays $22 billion in tax. He said it to ABC Radio and the Daily Aus podcast on 23 April, and on the 7 News Podcast, the Issue on 24 April. Did Treasury or the ATO provide that number to PM&C or the PMO? Did the department provide talking points to the Prime Minister or his office that contained that figure? Is it normal for ministers or the Prime Minister to be quoting unverified figures from an industry with an incentive to inflate them? How much additional revenue will be generated by the proposed Domestic Gas Reservation Scheme (as currently drafted: https://consult.dcceew.gov.au/domestic-gas-reservation-scheme-draft-design-framework)?
