March Audit and Risk Committee Meeting
Question
Senator KOVACIC: In relation to the Audit and Risk Committee meetings, what were the matters that were raised at the last meeting of that committee in general terms? Mr Cook: Generally, what often happens is I'll go-not to every meeting, but from time to time-as the secretary, and I'll provide the committee with an overview of contextual things that are happening in the department and things that might be impacting on the department from a risk perspective. What will then usually happen is there's a rotating arrangement where a deputy secretary will attend the audit committee and talk about particular items, like child care, schools and higher ed, and any issues that they might have around risks. What then would normally happen is the internal audit team would report on internal audits that have been undertaken and the results of those audits, and they sometimes ask the relevant manager or SES to come and talk to that and what the departmental response has been in relation to those audits as well. Again, I'll ask Ms Murphy for a bit more detail about anything I've missed. Senator KOVACIC: I'd be interested in any specific things in the most recent meeting. Ms Murphy: In the meetings they do discuss outcomes of internal audits. I believe that there were three internal audits tabled at the last meeting and any recommendations out of that- Mr Cook: Do we know what they are? I don't know off the top of my head. Do we know? Ms Murphy: Unfortunately, I don't have that information with me. Mr Cook: We can give you that on notice if we need to. The other thing that also happens is the chair of the audit committee then also comes to the executive board of the department, which is effectively chaired by me and all the deputies, and the chair of the audit committee then reports to the executive board the work of the committee and any particular findings or outcomes that we need to be aware of from an executive board perspective. The chair of the audit committee also meets with me after every meeting to give me an overview of the work of the audit committee as well.
