National Youth Forum and youth advisory groups
Question
Senator KOVACIC: Regarding the National Youth Forum and the youth advisory groups, was tax brought up as a key issue at either of those? Ms Chipperfield: Our youth advisory groups have covered a range of different specific topics. Taxation and the cost of living are not among those, specifically. However, for instance, our Mental Health Youth Advisory Group, which is running this year, is looking at ways in which young people are able to access services. We certainly know there are a range of things that prevent young people from accessing services-sometimes the cost of those services. In that aspect, things around the cost of living might come up through those particular groups. This year's National Youth Forum looked at three key issues: mental health, support for the arts sector and climate and water. Again, there is a cost-of-living element that's associated with all of those-not specifically taxation but some of the other aspects around barriers to access would be coming up. Senator KOVACIC: So no-one raised CGT or negative gearing in those groups? There was no mention of those? Ms Chipperfield: Not that I'm aware of. Senator KOVACIC: Are we able to have a copy of the minutes from the forum and the advisory group? Ms Chipperfield: We can provide highlights of those, some of the key discussion points and outcomes and the information that's been shared, as well.
