Question

1. In light of recent global energy shocks, what analysis has the Government undertaken on Australia's ongoing exposure to international price spikes while our power system and transport remain reliant on coal, oil and gas? a. What specific measures (with timelines) are being implemented to reduce that exposure through renewables, storage and electrification? 2. Given published analysis that Australia's coal and gas export profi le faces structural decline, what scenario planning has the Government undertaken for a rapid drop in fossil fuel export demand and revenue? a. What is the plan (with funded measures and timelines) to build replacement export industries and manage regional and fiscal impacts? 3. In the context of recent energy shocks, has the Government compared how quickly electrifi cation-through renewables, storage and electric transport-can reduce Australia's exposure to global fuel markets, relative to the time and cost required to expand domestic oil and gas supply? a. If this analysis has been completed or is currently underway, will you table that comparison publicly and release the modelling and data underpinning it? b. If this analysis is not a current piece of work being undertaken by the Government, could the Government please explain why this is not considered an urgent need? 4. In designing the Government's $10 billion fuel security package, what analysis was undertaken comparing the efficiency, speed and cost of electrifi cation with expanding oil and gas supply? a. Why does the package predominantly focus on fossil fuel-based measures, and not additional support for rapid transition of systems and sectors to electrifi cation?
