Question

With all state and territory jurisdictions now having a Container Deposit/Refund Scheme (CDS/CRS), there is opportunity for a national coordinated approach to improve and harmonise these schemes. To improve return rates to international best practice levels (>90%) an increase in the refund (20 cents or above) should be initiated and to expand upon the scope all schemes, they should include wine and spirit bottles, tethered bottle tops, milk bottles, glass jars and reusable bottles as eligible items. Will the Minister and Government commit to raising national CDS/CRS harmonisation opportunities as an agenda item at the next Environment Ministers Meeting (EMM) and advocate for these improvements to be included in State and Territory schemes?
