Question

The Tasmanian night skies - particularly those in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area - are renowned for their rich and unpolluted (light pollution) values. However, light pollution is one of the main pollutants and impacts on natural and cultural values are still poorly understood. Fortunately, the TWWHA can be protected from this rampant pollution through the creation of the Southwest Dark Sky Sanctuary. 1. Has the Minister, Government or DCCEEW been contacted by the Tasmanian Government and/or Tasmanian Parks & Wildlife Service regarding the creation of a dark sky sanctuary in the TWWHA? 2. Is the Federal government investigating how the creation of a dark sky sanctuary in the TWWHA could further enhance the protection of the TWWHA's outstanding universal values?
