Australian Marine Conservation Society request to list Macquarie Harbour on register of Critical Habitat

On 20 March 2026, the Australian Marine Conservation Society formally requested Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt list Macquarie Harbour on the Register of Critical Habitat under section 207A of the EPBC Act 1999, to prevent the extinction and support the recovery of the Maugean skate. 1. Is the Minister and Department aware of this request? a. If so, what is its current status? 2. Will the Government commit to an assessment of the merits of this request based on current legal advice relating to Section 207A of the EPBC Act?
