Question

1. Why does Western Australia have only one representative out of 24 expert advisors in the National Cultural Policy consultation process, and what steps are being taken to address this imbalance? 2. What assessment has the department made of the risks that policy settings may reflect predominantly east coast conditions, including assumptions about touring viability, infrastructure access and workforce mobility? 3. Why were the National Cultural Policy consultation town halls cancelled, and what alternative engagement mechanisms have been provided, particularly for geographically isolated states such as Western Australia? 4. If no equivalent replacement forums were provided, does the department accept that this reduced accessibility for Western Australian stakeholders? 5. Will the next National Cultural Policy explicitly recognise arts and culture as contributing to social cohesion, including community connection, belonging and civic participation? 6. How will the National Cultural Policy account for structural differences in Western Australia, including higher touring costs, smaller population density and greater workforce isolation? 7. What adjustments, if any, are being considered to ensure policy settings do not disadvantage jurisdictions with these conditions? 8. How will the National Cultural Policy distinguish between market cultural activity and non-market cultural activity, including community arts and First Nations cultural practice? 9. If no distinction is made, how will non-market cultural outcomes such as participation and social cohesion be appropriately supported and measured? 10. Given data indicating declining per-capita cultural expenditure and Australia's relatively low ranking internationally, what consideration has been given to increasing investment, and how will this be reflected in the National Cultural Policy?
