Set the Standard Report
Question
The Set the Standard: Report on the Independent Review into Commonwealth Parliamentary Workplaces (sometimes also known as the Jenkins Review) was tabled in Parliament on 30 November 2021. An implementation plan was provided in Table 5.2 (p. 146) under "Phases of Implementation". Within 12-18 months of the Set the Standard Report being tabled: an inaugural annual parliamentary discussion (Recommendation 2) was supposed to have been convened; an annual report of diversity characteristics of parliamentarians, MOP(S) Act employees and parliamentary departments (Recommendations 7, 8) was supposed to have been released; and the first annual report of individual leadership actions taken by parliamentarians, party leaders, and office-holders to ensure a safe and respectful work environment (Recommendation 4) should have been released. In addition, there was supposed to be an External Independent Review of the implementation of the Report's recommendations commissioned and completed within 18-24 months of the Report's tabling in Parliament. And following that, there was supposed to be both consideration and implementation of the recommendations from the external independent review, a second annual parliamentary discussion convened, and a second public implementation report released, and diversity characteristics of parliamentarians and MOP(S) Act employees reported all within 24 months of the Report's tabling in Parliament. Each of these items is now overdue. Please: 1. Provide an update on each of the items above and when they will be delivered. 2. Advise who is doing the external independent review of the Set the Standard Report recommendations. When did the external independent review start (or when will it start)? Who will be consulted as part of the independent review? When is the independent review expected to be delivered? 3. Provide a report on the diversity characteristics of parliamentarians and MOP(S) Act employees and parliamentary departments as per the recommendations.
