Question

1. A review of the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Sheep has been listed on the AWTG work plan as a priority for several years. Noting that the Federal Government did step in to set up an independent panel for the review of the Poultry Standards, given that a state or territory government has not yet volunteered to lead the review process, will the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) step in and allocate resources to this priority? If not, why not? 2. Now that key wool industry bodies have highlighted the urgency for the development of a national strategy to address live lamb cutting (mulesing), what is the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) doing to support a national strategy and make sure the review of the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Sheep gets underway without delay? 3. The 'Green Sheep Project' was recently launched at Agfest 2026. Will this project include hard targets for ending mulesing to protect the 'clean and green' reputation of Australian wool?
