Fuel Costs to track invasive species threats
Question
To monitor and track invasive species threats in regional and remote Australia - on-ground surveillance is undertaken and is heavily reliant on fuel - whether that is long-distance driving or hiring light aircraft. As these transport costs rise, how is the department ensuring that surveillance frequency doesn't drop off in high-risk, hard-to-reach ecosystems? Are we facing a scenario where the sheer cost of fuel is forcing the department to reduce the geographic scope of its active surveillance field trips?
