Question

Senator KOVACIC: To finish off on that complaint about Dr Hammond, my understanding is there was a complaint about his behaviour that was lodged on 12 April to the interim vice-chancellor by Mr Jack Pinczewski and then also to, I understand, the chief people officer and the interim vice-chancellor's chief of staff. I understand ANU confirmed it was investigating on 23 April and Dr Hammond was given a deadline of 11 May to respond. Do we know whether he has responded and what has happened with that response? Prof. Brown: Again, I will need to take the specifics on notice, but my team has just alerted me that the investigation hasn't completed yet. I will get that information to the committee. I have also been alerted to the fact that there is an academic review that's happening at the moment as well. Senator KOVACIC: So it's underway? Prof. Brown: That's underway. I've just had that confirmed. Senator KOVACIC: My final question is: I understand that Mr Pinczewski has sought meetings with the ANU to address this issue but has not been able to secure a meeting before today. Do you have any information as to why he's been unable to secure a meeting to discuss what is clearly a significant complaint? Prof. Brown: In my best recollection, the provost of the university and our chief operating officer have offered to meet with him, and I believe that that's not too far away. Senator KOVACIC: Has that offer occurred today? Prof. Brown: I think it may have happened earlier than today, to the best of my knowledge. Senator KOVACIC: Could you let me know when that offer occurred.
