1. Was the Chief Economist role, or lead role for the Office of the Indigenous Economy, publicly advertised? a. If the role was not advertised, why not? b. Was an open, merit-based recruitment process undertaken? c. Who made the decision to appoint the Chief Economist? d. Was the appointment approved by the CEO, the Board, or both? e. Were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander economists, researchers, policy experts or sector leaders invited to apply? f. Were any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates considered, approached, shortlisted or interviewed? g. What selection criteria were used for the role? h. Was cultural capability, First Peoples community accountability, or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people included in the selection criteria? i. Can you provide documentation showing the recruitment and approval process for the appointment? j. What assurance can IBA give that this was not a pre-determined appointment? k. How does IBA justify appointing a non-Indigenous person to lead a new Office focused on the Indigenous economy if the role was not openly advertised? l. Why was this not used as an opportunity to build First Nations economic leadership within IBA? m. Does IBA intend to appoint an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander economist to lead, co-lead or provide cultural and technical authority within the Office?
