Question

What direct communication mechanisms does DFAT or the Australian Embassy operate with children or young adults in legacy Japan parent-child separation cases? Does DFAT or the Australian Embassy initiate any contact with the child or young adult in these cases, other than the age-18 passport eligibility letter? Where DFAT holds correspondence or contact details from an Australian parent on file, is there any mechanism to ensure the relevant child or young adult becomes aware that material exists? Where DFAT does not hold a current address for the child or young adult, what mechanism exists beyond holding the Australian parent's correspondence on file?
