RG Casey Lease
Question
Senator SHARMA: I want to know what the options are on the RG Casey building if we're able to move early, and I want to get the expiry dates of the other leases. Senator Wong: What do you mean by 'what the options are'? Do you mean for the landlord? Senator SHARMA: No, for us. The lease runs until 2031, and the national security precinct- Mr Maclachlan: You're asking about the circumstances if we're able to move in January 2030 and the lease doesn't expire on RG Casey until January 2031. Unless Suzanne has the answer right now, I suggest we take that on notice. Ms Pitson: We will move as soon as we're reasonably able to. I think we need to keep in mind that, after you've reached practical completion, there is then a period for DFAT to do its own fit-out-its own IT installation, its own security overlay-and then we have to actually get everything that we don't want. We need to decommission the old building. So there's still a process that has to be undergone for us to fulfil our obligations under the existing lease and to hand it back as we're required to under the lease. We have extended the leases to allow those processes to occur. I'm still looking for the dates. Senator SHARMA: That's fine. You're welcome to take those on notice if you like. Ms Pitson: Thank you. I just don't have the exact months, but I know that two have been extended. We'll take it on notice.
