Question

Senator SHOEBRIDGE: I appreciate that, Mr Marcelo, and I appreciate the number of interactions. I know that the Philippine Australian community, who have been concerned about this, would also appreciate it, so thank you for putting that on the record. Minister, part of the answer on notice-I appreciate the answer and I appreciate the further details now-reads: The PJRVEP supports interagency coordination, institutional relationships, jail management mechanisms for violent extremist offenders, and technical assistance and capacity building ... on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing. Perhaps, if you have the details now-but I'm more than happy for these matters to be considered and answered on notice-can you explain in detail what agencies that is supporting. Is it the police? Is it the judiciary? Is it the police and the judiciary? And what oversight does Australia have of where the funding goes? If you know that now, Mr Marcelo, that's fine. Actually, I would appreciate a considered, detailed response on notice. Mr Marcelo: Sure. Just to reassure you, there's no funding directly from this program to the Philippine government. It's all delivered through agencies, such as AUSTRAC, which you mentioned. Just quickly, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime works with Philippine prisons, the University of New England delivers technical assistance on research, the Asia Foundation builds capacity in the judicial system in the Philippines, I've mentioned AUSTRAC, and the Department of Home Affairs works with Philippine law and justice agencies. So a range of organisations deliver assistance with Philippine counterparts, but we can, if you like, take them all on notice. Senator SHOEBRIDGE: Yes, I would appreciate if you could articulate what those agencies are, what they're delivering and the level of funding for each of them. But, again, I thank you for the detail, Mr Marcelo.
