Question

Senator CANAVAN: But do they have to report on Australian exports of cement or aluminium at the moment? Are those importers of Australian exports having to do that? Mr Woods: Yes, that's correct. Knowing of course-and, again, I'm scratching the numbers from memory-the numbers on Australian exports that will be captured directly by the EU CBAM are measured in a small hundreds of millions of dollars. Senator CANAVAN: It was the whole reason we signed up to net zero, but I couldn't understand that, given how small it was. Even though we've signed up to net zero and we've got all these policies, do the importers of our products still potentially have to pay this carbon border adjustment tariff? Mr Woods: Again, I might have to take that on notice. I know that there has been engagement with the Europeans, with the European Union, around the extent to which our actions on climate and carbon emissions would be recognised by the Europeans for that purpose. But let me take that on notice.
