Question

QUESTION With reference to the announcement made in October 2025 regarding the new MRI machine for Hervey Bay Hospital— Will the Minister advise when the machine will be operational? ANSWER The Crisafulli Government is delivering health services when Queenslanders need them, with a major expansion of diagnostic imaging capacity and capability across the State. Six new MRI machines and nine new CT scanners will be installed at 11 health facilities across Queensland, taking pressure on existing facilities to help deliver healthcare when Queenslanders need them. The new MRI machines represent an almost 20% increase in MRI capacity in Queensland’s public hospitals and health centres, while nine new CT scanners will boost capacity by more than 10%. The new technology is part of a more than $270 million investment and delivers on a key election commitment. The project team is actively working through the design and detailed planning process to get the new MRI machine at the Hervey Bay Hospital operational. A date for when the machine will be operational will be determined following this process. I acknowledge Member for Hervey Bay David Lee and community member Helen Schmidt for their tireless advocacy for this new medical imaging capability at the Hervey Bay Hospital, after the former government failed to invest in this service during their decade of decline. The new MRI machine complements broader works at Hervey Bay Hospital, including the 35-bed expansion and new rooftop helipad. Works are progressing well and back on track after the project experienced a cost blow out of $54 million and a delay of 2 years under the former government.
