Question

With reference to reports in my electorate of significant barriers in obtaining a dyslexia diagnosis for students who show clear dyslexic characteristics, including parents reporting the process is unclear, inconsistent and in many cases unavailable in the state system and high costs of private providers, and noting estimates that up to 20 percent of students may have dyslexia and evidence linking untreated literacy disorders to adverse life outcomes— Will the Minister advise (a) what processes are currently available within Queensland state schools to diagnose dyslexia and (b) what steps the Government will take to ensure students can receive timely, affordable assessments and support regardless of family income or geographic location?
