QUESTION With reference to facilities that routinely operate (when not impacted by any temporary CSCF changes) at minimum a level 3 maternity service (level 3 clinical maternity service capability level) as defined by the Clinical Services Capability Framework (CSCF)— Will the Minister provide (in table format, reported separately by facility) the (a) FTE vacancy as at the date of the question or closest reportable date and (b) the current vacancy rate for the following where applicable (i) general practitioner obstetricians/rural generalist obstetricians, (ii) specialist obstetricians, (iii) anaesthetists and (iv) registered midwives? ANSWER The Crisafulli Government’s recently released Workforce Gap Analysis Report shows a significant failure by the former government to secure a pipeline of health workers. The Report highlights the major impacts this has had, particularly on rural and remote Queensland, with persistent workforce gaps forcing critical community services to close. The Report follows the assessment of regional maternity workforce gaps completed within our first 100 days in office. This assessment showed that critical workforce shortages lingered under the former government. These shortages impact service delivery and continuity, with vacancy rates under the former government of 14.2% in obstetrics, 17.9% in anaesthetics, and 11.5% in midwifery. That is why the Crisafulli Government is boosting the frontline health workforce with an additional 4,500 health workers including doctors, paramedics and nurses in 2025-26, as part of the record Health Budget’s $24.1 billion investment into Hospital and Health Service operations.
