Alcohol and other drug beds
Question
QUESTION Will the Minister advise, based on currently committed projects, the total number of alcohol and other drug beds that will be available by 2026-27 (including, but not limited to, hospital withdrawal beds and community rehabilitation and withdrawal beds managed by nongovernment organisations)? ANSWER The Queensland Government funds 390 specialist alcohol and other drug withdrawal management and rehabilitation beds state-wide consisting of: 22 hospital-based withdrawal management beds; and 368 residential rehabilitation and withdrawal management beds managed by non-government organisations. This bed total includes two new purpose-built residential treatment centres opened by the Crisafulli Government in Cairns (for young people with services commenced in October 2025) and Bundaberg (for adults with services commenced in March 2025) and 46 beds available from December 2025 as services commence in the new purpose-built adult alcohol and other drug residential treatment service in Ipswich. In addition, in line with a 2024 election commitment, the Crisafulli Government has also undertaken a state-wide stock-take of alcohol and other drug rehabilitation services to identify where additional bed capacity can be funded and activated. Outcomes of the stock-take are currently being considered with the aim of further increasing bed availability. The Crisafulli Government also provided funding of approximately $7.5 million to Gindaja Treatment and Healing Indigenous Corporation to complete capital works at their alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation service in Yarrabah. When this capital upgrade is completed by 2026-27 it will deliver seven additional beds at this service.
