Question
QUESTION Will the Minister advise current vacant positions at the Biloela Hospital (reported separately by (a) General Practitioner (b) Anaesthetist, (c) Senior Medical Officers, (d) General Practitioner Obstetricians, (e) Registered Midwives and (f) Registered nurses)? ANSWER The Crisafulli Government has released the Queensland Health Workforce Gap Analysis Reports which expose the staggering depths of the Health Crisis left by the former government. The former government’s failure to secure a pipeline of health workers has had major impacts, particularly on rural and remote Queensland, with persistent workforce gaps forcing critical community services to close - including birthing services at Biloela and Cooktown – since 2022. As part of the analysis, Queensland Health has found major workforce shortages left by the former government - and no cohesive pipeline for the future health workforce. The Crisafulli Government is investing in securing the health workforce pipeline. The 2025-26 State Budget delivers funding for 4,500 additional health workers including doctors, paramedics and nurses, as part of the record Health Budget’s $24.1 billion investment into Hospital and Health Service operations. I am pleased to advise that on 13 November 2025, Biloela Hospital reached an exciting milestone with the official opening of brand-new staff accommodation. The new accommodation will play a vital role in attracting and retaining skilled healthcare professionals to Biloela, helping to address local housing shortages and ensuring staff have access to quality living spaces close to their workplace. Table 1: Current Vacant Positions at Biloela Hospital Stream 2025 General Practitioner Anaes 1.00 FTE General Practitioner O&G 0.00 FTE Senior Medical Officers 1.50 FTE Registered Midwives 0.21 FTE Registered Nurses* 3.33 FTE* * 0.84FTE included for this is for RN Grad. I am advised that overall vacancies at Biloela Hospital in 2025 are lower than 2024. Furthermore, for the first time in a number of years, the Biloela Hospital's Allied Health team is fully staffed, and GP Obstetrician positions have also been fully recruited to – a testament to the Crisafulli Government’s investment in Queensland’s regional health workforce.
